New for 2022: CWEEL

The Council on Women in Energy & Environmental Leadership (CWEEL) is a division of the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) intended to support the role of women within the energy and environmental sectors. The CWEEL organization was founded by and continues to be run by some amazing and successful women leaders in the energy and environmental fields.

For our part, the AEE Canada East chapter is excited to embark on a journey to build our own CWEEL presence. To support this new group, we have added two new women board members to the team.

Anna is a Canadian leader in carbon reduction solutions for buildings and a recipient of the AEE 2021 Young Energy Professional of the Year award. She was a key contributor to the development of plans to avoid over 18 million tons of CO2e emissions in over 1000 buildings across Canada. As a Climate Change Consultant and Project Manager with WSP Canada, Anna leads the development of holistic sustainability and carbon reduction strategies across Canada as well as internationally.

Anna is developing programs to assist young people of all backgrounds in their exploration of climate change, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable living through WSP volunteer groups, the National Children’s Botanical Garden of Canada, and a student Social Entrepreneurs Program. She additionally co-founded and chairs a volunteer committee fostering a sustainable workplace and surrounding community.

Anna’s mission is to continue to extend her reach within and beyond Canada, bringing together leaders who will work together to curve the effects of climate change. In her new role as AEE Canada East’s CWEEL Lead, Anna looks forward to growing an impactful network of women across the region working professionally in, or with a passion for energy and the environment.

In addition to Anna taking on the CWEEL Lead for the AEE Canada East chapter, we are also pleased to have Heike Schreiber join the board for 2022. Heike and Anna join Afaf Azzouz and Cassia Correa (who is currently on a parenthood sabbatical).

Are you interested in networking with Anna and the rest of the CWEEL team you can reach her here: anna.harman@aeecanadaeast.org or connect with her on LinkedIn.

While we aren’t sure exactly what 2022 will hold for CWEEL, we are certain that there will be opportunities to network both in person (eventually) and virtually. Stay tuned.
